Sunrise Montessori is situated in the bustling commercial area of Hengshan Road in Xuhui District, Shanghai , China . It was first established in 1994 opening its doors to all children of different nationalities, race and gender. From S.Y 2006, we have opened our French section to facilitate the educational needs of the French children.
Now, Sunrise Montessori is one of the top International Kindergarten schools in Shanghai, and recognized by the Education Bureau as the one of the schools who provides quality education to young children.

Sunrise Montessori International Kindergarten is a Bi-Lingual school that adheres with the Montessori principles of teaching and Progressive Developmental Method. This method also deals with the thematic approach to learning. At Sunrise Montessori, your children will have the freedom to discover themselves in a carefully prepared environment. English Sections:
Our English section is an English-Chinese bi-lingual which is open from the Toddlers to the Kindergarten level. We provide curriculums for each level focusing on the different learning aspects of early childhood education.
Toddlers Program: Is from 15 to 35 months old (1.5 2.11 years old). The toddlers age is the formative years of early childhood education. We focused in helping the children developed their social, cognitive, language and emotional skills. Children are placed in an environment that helps them explore and have fun at the same time. Parents can choose between our Half day and full day schedules.
Pre-Kindergarten Program: It is a full day schedule for children aged 3 to 4 years old. The childs interest in learning to adapt more of his environment is what makes the whole learning process fun. They are exposed to different activities which prepare them to a more challenging program. The Montessori materials designed for this level emphasizes on the individual growth of the child. Their abilities to understand more of individual and group play make them more confident in dealing with their own social, emotional and cognitive state.
Kindergarten Programs Level 1 and 2: It is a full day schedule for children aged 4 to 6 years old. In this area the curriculum is focused more on the academic aspect of the child in preparation for the primary levels. The children are encouraged for logical reasoning, accomplishing a task and most especially preparing them to become more responsible young learners, while having fun at the same time.
French Sections :
Our French section is a French-Chinese bi-lingual, which focuses on the French education system, while integrating with the Chinese cultural learning. Our French section is recognized by the French government and has an approved homologation education system by the French consulate in Shanghai.
We start from the Petite section, Moyenne section, Grande section up to the CP level.
We follow the French school calendars, philosophy of teaching and provide well accredited & qualified teachers directly from France.
Conformément aux programmes de l'école maternelle française, l'accent est mis au cours de ce cycle sur la socialisation, l'apprentissage de l'autonomie et la langue orale (maîtrise du français).
L'école maternelle constitue le socle éducatif et pédagogique sur lequel s'appuient et se développent les apprentissages qui seront systématisés à l'école élementaire.
La socialisation de l'enfant et l'acquisition d'une bonne maîtrise de la langue française sont les priorités de ces 3 années.
Les cinq domaines prioritaires du cycle 1 sont :
- la maîtrise du langage
- vivre ensemble
- agir et s'exprimer avec son corps
- découvrir le monde
- développer sa sensibilité et son imagination
La section française propose un apprentissage bilingue et biculturel français-chinois du programme de de l'Education Nationale, de la Petite section à la Grande section.
Toutes les matières des programmes de l'école maternelle française sont enseignées en français à mi-temps et en chinois à mi-temps.
La condition d'admission est d'avoir, entre le 1er janvier et le 31 décembre de l'année scolaire :
- 3 ans pour la Petite section
- 4 ans pour la Moyenne section
- 5 ans pour la Grande section
Le CP fait partie du cycle des apprentissages fondamentaux. La découverte des mathématiques et la langue française écrite sont les priorités d'apprentissage. La découverte du monde, le développement des aptitudes physiques, la maîtrise de l'oral et le développement de l'autonomie restent essentiels.
A partir du Cours Préparatoire, le français est la langue d'enseignement principal (1 heure de chinois par jour et 2 séances d'anglais par semaine).
Tout élève arrivant de France d'un établissement public ou privé sous contrat ou de l'étranger et d'un établissement figurant sur la liste publiée annuellement au Journal Officiel, est admis au niveau indiqué par l'établissement d'origine.
Les enfants provenant d'établissements privés hors contrat ou ne figurant pas sur la liste des établissements de l'étranger officiellement reconnus peuvent être admis après un contrôle de connaissances afin de déterminer leur niveau d'entrée éventuel.
L'association du Petit Lotus de Bleu de Shanghai est une association de parents d'élèves francophones qui opère en partenariat avec l'école Sunrise Montessori International Pre-School and Kindergarten. Association de loi 1901 à but non lucratif, elle participe au maintien de la qualité de l'enseignement, selon les critères de l'Agence pour l'Enseignement du Français à l'Etranger et au financement de projets éducatifs et sportifs au sein de l'établissement.

Des bourses scolaires peuvent être attribuées pour les élèves français, sous conditions. Les dossiers sont à retirer et à déposer au Consulat Général de France à Shanghai.
Sports Activities:
We also give emphasis on the different sports activities that could help boost the childs interest in excelling to sports. It also teaches them the value of sportsmanship, team work and camaraderie.
School Events:
School events are an important part of the childs learning process. The children are encouraged to participate in all our school events, whether singing, dancing or stage play acting. The school events help the children mold their creative, artistic and entertaining characteristic which make them more and socially inclined individuals

Health Department :
The Health department is in coordination with the local Health and Clinic Bureau of Shanghai. The children's health is our priority so we ensure that proper care and guidance are given in every situation.
Medical requirements are an important aspect of our kindergarten. Parents must submit these requirements before the child starts attending school.
Without these NO SCHOOL POLICY shall be implemented.

For children who get sick, a sick leave form must be submitted to the school.
This form may be downloaded for fill-up and printing.
It is a must to record the childs temperature on a daily basis, for this form parents may ask directly to the teachers.

Summer Camp :
Summer camp is open to all students aged 18 months to 7 years old. It is an optional program for the months of July and August.
Our program includes water fun activity, outdoor trips, classroom parties, music & movement, inter-active stories, basic cooking, Montessori activities and phonics for reading readiness.
